The causative agent of HME has been identified as Ehrlichia chaffeensis. Ehrlichia chaffeensis (strain Arkansas) is an intracellular vector-borne pathogen that causes human ehrlichiosis. It depends on hematophagous ticks as a vector and wild mammals as a reservoir host. It has been most commonly identified in the Lone Star tick (Amblyomma americanum), with white-tailed deer considered to be the major reservoir. Ehrlichia chaffeensis. Ehrlichia chaffeensis is transmitted to humans by the lone star tick, Amblyomma americanum (see Figures 4 and 5 below).

The mechanisms involved are not fully defined, but appear to rely largely on a subset of tandem repeat proteins (TRP) effectors. Up to 1 in 3 people with ehrlichiosis report a rash; rash is more common in people with E. chaffeensis ehrlichiosis and generally occurs more often in children than adults. Rash usually develops 5 days after fever begins. If a person develops a rash, it can look like red splotches or pinpoint dots. 2020-04-07 Ehrlichia chaffeensis is an intracellular rickettsia-like bacterium that preferentially infects monocytes and is sequestered in parasitophorous vacuoles referred to as morulae.

We investigated the role of EtpE in transmission of the bacteria from tick to Ehrlichia chaffeensis (IgG, IgM) - Human Monocytic Ehrlichiosis (HME) is a tick-borne infection caused by Ehrlichia chaffeensis. Infections range in severity from asymptomatic to life-threatening, especially in patients who are immunocompromised. Ehrlichia chaffeensis, a new species associated with human ehrlichiosis.

As a small, obligate intracellular bacterium, E. chaffeensis infects and replicates inside membrane-bound cytoplasmic compartments of monocytes and macrophages. These bacteria cause the disease ehrlichiosis, which is considered zoonotic, because the main reservoirs for the disease are animals. Name: Ehrlichia chaffeensis Anderson et al.
